ABOUT L S CLUCAS

AUTHOR | COUNSELLOR | BLOGGER

LS Clucas

Lauren Clucas is a relationship counsellor in South Africa and author of the book, “Wanted – How To Create A Relationship that Really Works”.

Wanted is the result of a decade of observing and counselling couples in South Africa, Singapore and Australia. Lauren recognized that some couples, regardless of the drama, conflict or disharmony between them, engage certain qualities which enable them to thrive, while others chose to divorce or part ways. She became curious about those couples that thrived in the wake of adversity. Not staying in the relationship for staying’s sake, but because they found ways to want the relationship and to make each other feel wanted in the relationship.

Wanted goes beyond the basics to describe how conscious incorporation of behavioural Allies will deliver sustainable fulfillment to your relationship. It’s the difference between staying power, which is staying in the relationship through sheer force of will, and sticking power, which is the result of a glue made from want and desire.

Lauren’s talent for creating the turn of phrase that nails each relationship issue and each type of accountability can be found in the blogs and content on this site.

Wanted is available on Amazon.com in both paperback and kindle formats.

Lauren has a Masters’ Degree is Social Science (Counselling) from the University of South Australia and began her full-time counselling career in 2003, working extensively with couples and individuals specifically in the areas of relationships and depression. Her prior career in tourism marketing was preceded by a degree in Journalism. The youngest of three children, Laura was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1967 to a British mother and Afrikaans father. Lauren lives in Cape Town, South Africa, with her husband and two sons.

"From experience in my former practices in Singapore and Australia, and indeed in my personal life, I’ve seen how life presents us with limitless opportunities to grow, heal and learn – moving to a new country, retrenchment, marriage, divorce, a new baby, a career change, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, the loss of a loved one…

“If we have not acquired the coping mechanisms to pull through such events, we might be overwhelmed with feelings of depression, abandonment, mistrust, anxiety, hurt, anger, inadequacy, low self-esteem and so on.

“In the safety of a confidential setting, counselling offers us the opportunity to discover our own resources, to rekindle our relationships and to learn the life skills that help us to navigate and thrive through the challenges of life.

“I offer one-on-one sessions to clients to help them overcome the obstacles that limit their relationships."

"Things do not change, we change." H.D Thoreau.

Lauren has specialised in cognitive re-programming (Accelerated Behavioural Cognitive Therapy – ABCT) as well as relationship counselling. She’s also a Certified Relationship Educator (CRE) and a professional member of both the American Counselling Association (ACA) and the Natural Healers Association.

TESTIMONIALS

“I haven't finished many self help type books as I never found them interesting or relevant to my particular problem. The only books I have finished which I enjoyed were the artists way or something like chicken soup. These two books had activities for the reader to do and lots of personal stories which I personally enjoy. I want to know how other people dealt with it and what I personally could try. With your book I felt connected and engaged, it was relevant to my situation and reminded me of all your advice. I liked hearing your personal stories and those of your other clients. I love that the perosn I have come to know is the same voice I was hearing in the book, it felt as though you were in the room talking to me. Your book made me feel less alone as you read about other couples going through similar problems. Your book was not just about information, it showed how to apply it and gave lots of examples. It was easy reading, no technical language or unnecessary information."

“Let me preface this by saying that I loathe self-help books and the closest I have ever got to reading a 'self-helpy' type book was Eat, Pray, Love. But this is what makes your book so remarkable - not only did I finish it but I really enjoyed reading it. What I enjoyed most was that it perfectly intertwines autobiography, self-help and psychology. I bookmarked loads of pages and honestly think that your 'Allies' should be the blueprint for marriage prep courses. Your exercises are totally do-able too. I actually did one (Expectations Exercise) with my husband. I was aware that my marriage needed some CPR and this book was my wake-up call. Please let me know when your website is up and running as I would like to download some more exercises. Lastly, your view on love being the end game is remarkable and enlightening. I also loved how you reiterated self-love and its importance. Please publish this soon - I want all of my friends to read it ASAP 🙂 Thank you for trusting me with your book. I have no doubt that it will transform many, many relationships. "
